Murals and Trompe l'oeil Finishes

Murals and Trompe l'oeil finishes are painted on primed and base painted walls, on canvas and on wood panels. The dining room mural shown on the mural page was painted on-site on 58 inch wide raw cotton canvas we provided. The canvas was professionally dry hung with wallpaper paste over primed and base painted walls, then painted with two coats of Ben Moore Aqua Pearl acrylic interior paint and sanded between coats. When designing a mural painted on canvas, whether it is painted on site or in the studio, the pattern is scaled to the room and custom designed around the size and openings of the room during design schematics. The artist consults with the owner to assure the mural design placement, drawings and colors are correct. Once the design and terms of the contract are approved, the decorating begins either on-site or in the studio. The benefit of hanging canvas on the walls is two fold. One, it provides a wonderful canvas finish for detail painting. Two, since murals are more costly, murals painted on canvas can be carefully removed and taken to a new space if the owner relocates. Selected areas can be reused as individual panels when cut in appropriate sizes and shapes, dry hung on a new wall, and bordered with painted trim to provide a framed wall panel. Our custom canvas mural panels, wood mural panels and complete coverage canvas murals are sized and painted in the studio to meet space and design specifications and shipped to the owner. Local contractors hang the full size mural on-site. Smaller individual panels are also installed and framed on-site by a local contractor. For complete coverage murals, the artist will visit the site once, if necessary, to touch up the seams and adjust any images as needed. This is a cost effective and convenient way to provide a custom full coverage mural or mural panels to a client. Progress photos of work produced in the studio are routinely e-mailed to the client for approval and input.
